He was caught by police outside of a motel room when he tried to kill his last victim. A security guard heard her screams for help and called the authorities. Richard tried to run but they caught him and he was imediately arrested.

 

Evidence:

 

When he was arrested they found handcuffs, a roll of duct tape, a toy gun, a knife, and drugs used to abduct his victim

 

At his home they found the key's to one of the victim's apartment, a toy bear, and jewelry belonging to another victim

 

They found his fingerprints on handcuffs related to another murder case and his handwriting was also linked to the motel rooms that he rented to commit the murders as well as the attempted murders
